Icarus Shawl

Filed under: Knitting, Knitting FOs — freeformkatia @ 8:51 am

I’ve been working hard on the Icarus Shawl from the Interweave Knits Summer ’06 issue. I started it mid-April and finished it this past Saturday, June 2. It was a really enjoyable knit and the pattern, while beautiful, wasn’t that hard.

Anyway, the major stress lay in the fact that I was obviously going to run out of yarn. So, I switched to another yarn on the last 2 lace charts… and was left with literally inches to spare.

Here it is unblocked:

And during the blocking process:

My intention is to wear it on Tuesday evening when Richard and I go out for dinner to celebrate our 3rd wedding anniversary.

socks, again

Filed under: Knitting, Knitting FOs, Knitting WIP — freeformkatia @ 8:07 am

I finished the 2nd of my Painted Desert socks on Saturday afternoon during Maja’s mega nap (3hr!!! woohoo!!!).

I’m pretty happy with them, they’re very cozy and comfortable.

So, I knit these with Koigu (almost not worth clicking, their website is terrible. Obviously their strengths lie in yarn, not website design) in their KPPPM line, and it’s the first time I’ve knit with this brand of yarn. Lucious is how I would describe it. The saturation of colour made this yarn a joy to knit with.

So, on Sunday afternoon, during Maja’s nap (which was only 2hrs because of the change in daylight savings time) I immediately cast on with some more Koigu that I had in my stash. I had a headache when I started these, so a simple eyelet design is all I could come up with.

Maja’s outfit — Knitting, fo

Filed under: Knitting FOs — freeformkatia @ 8:14 am

I finished this outfit last weekend!

Pattern source: Knitpicks (but I can’t find the pattern on their website anymore)

Yarn: Knitpicks’ Memories in Redwood Forest

The only change I made was instead of doing a crotcheted edging on the jacket I did an i-cord. The reason: Katia doesn’t own a crotchet hook and if I did I wouldn’t know how to use it.

I think the i-cord turned out really well and gives the jacket a nice clean finished edging. I had never done an i-cord before, although I’ve heard of the technique… so who else did I turn to for help? Elizabeth Zimmerman! I’ve mentioned before that she rocks my knitting world.

I also finished Elyn’s scarf this past week(end?). No pics yet though… need to still block it out.

So, for today’s entertainment I am going to start a new pair of socks with the Koigu I bought in Arizona.

cotton lace shawl — blocking

Filed under: Knitting FOs — freeformkatia @ 7:53 am

I fixed the booboo and tucked in the ends.

I soaked it. I laid it on a towel, rolled it up and squeezed the water out.

I laid it out on the spare bed and inserted the blocking wires.

It should be dry by tonight.
