pizza queen

I’ve mentioned this before, but it bears mentioning again: the hardest part of my day is between the hours of 4:30 and 6:30pm. Dinner time. What to make and how do I do it when Maja is more often than not at my feet, arms stretched up saying “mama, up up up”? One cannot cook safely with a toddler in one’s arms.

Lately I’ve found a few solutions:

  1. put her in her booster seat with the tray and give her some cut apple or grated cheese or something else to munch on
  2. put her in her booster seat and give her something to colour
  3. cook ahead of time using the slow-cooker
  4. involve her in the cooking

#4 can be iffy at times. I have let her stir things in bowls, but sometimes my holding the bowl is not tolerated — I fear then that the entire bowl of whatever is going to land on the floor. So, the other evening (Wednesday, I believe) I had Maja help me with making pizza. Maja LOVES pizza. She helped me roll out the dough (somewhat helpful) and she cleaned the mushrooms for me (VERY helpful — she even destemmed them). She also helped eat some of the grated cheese.

It’s a constant challenge. And you laugh now, right? Because what the hell am I going to do when I’ve got 2 of these small creatures at my feet in the evenings saying “mama, up up!”
