Maja: my tooth is broked

Katia: what?!? what happened? which tooth? LET ME SEE!

Maja: right there — it’s broked.

Katia: broken. [might as well insert useful grammar lesson as I frantically think of all the issues a broken tooth can cause…]

As I finally peer into her mouth I see: a molar peeking through her gum! Normally this is not that exciting, but Miss Maja is a very late teether and this is only the 3rd of her two-year molars.

Katia: oh! your tooth broke through. Maja! You have a new tooth!

And of course because we like to work in themes:

I think Madeleine is teething too because last night she woke up every hour and cried for about 5-10min. before falling asleep again. Every. Hour. Which meant… Katia woke up every hour. It was a long night. And while Richard woke up too, he also was snoring 1 minute later… so totally not fair.

  1. I have a very hard time falling back to sleep after being woken up in the middle of the night. How on earth will I ever cope with motherhood?! I guess I’ll burn that bridge when I get there.

    Congrats to Maja.

  2. I had that problem too… until I had kids. Now I’m so totally exhausted that if I’m woken in the night, I can fall back asleep relatively quickly.

  3. Katia,

I’m dealing with double-teething too! My Maya has just lost her first two baby teeth! I can’t believe it. She’s five! Apparently that’s when it starts. So I’m frantically writing letters from the tooth fairy & sneaking into Maya’s room with money & stealing her teeth (a bizarre ritual) while I put orajel on little Ezra’s gums. I swear Maya’s new grown-up teeth are the same size as Ezra’s freakishly large baby teeth.

  4. Poor Maddy. I’m sorry she is keeping you up.

I don’t ever remember being excited about new teeth coming in. I loved having them fall out, so I could get another dollar from the Tooth Fairy. I suppose Miss Maja will have to wait a few years for that.

  5. I know all about late teething. I never did get my second molars. I have only 12 teeth on the bottom and had 14 on the top (one pulled re a jaw operation) and no wisdom teeth at all EVER. That was kind of a blessing really because so many teens and erly twenties end up having them pulled anyway. However, this has hampered me in no way. I am able to eat everything as my fine round body will attest to. LOL
