more bento gear

I’m feeling exceptionally tired today. I think it’s the sudden onset of warm weather (forecasting 28C today) … and the fact that I was roused at 4:30am by a small child in need of her mama and I never got back to sleep.

Anyway, I am happy to say that my order from Ichibankan arrived yesterday! I totally know I don’t NEED any of this stuff… but it’s so damn cute. The little character bentos (monkey, rabbit, bear) are for Maja & (eventually) Madeleine’s snacks.

At this point I will do anything to get Maja to eat. You don’t believe me that she doesn’t eat? Well, let me say that she had 2 bites of her birthday cake and then decided she didn’t want anymore. This is CAKE we’re talking about!!!

For her birthday Maja also got this bento, the Cinnamaroll character from Hello Kitty! This is the only bento thing I could find in Chinatown (in a store that was dedicated to Hello Kitty gear — it was surreal). We packed her morning snack in this yesterday and she loved it. So, today Richard packed her morning snack in the Monkey bento from above and I packed her afternoon snack in Cinnamaroll. Hopefully she eats it!

4-18 toddler bento

  1. super cute stuff! Seriously, the hello kitty gear makes me want a daughter just so I can buy it (now that it a terrible reason to add to the family!)

  4. I hope that cute cut outs help with the eating motivation. I know I want a hard boiled egg shaped like a bunny (and I don’t even like HB eggs!). Seriously, I hope that your toddler starts eating more.

  5. Re: Eating and toddlers. As my two non-eaters are now well into elementary grades, I am only more and more convinced of an under-reported, critical feature of family feeding:

    Air-borne nutrients.

If you slice enough vegetables in the presence of children, they are healthier. And meanwhile, look at the girl – growing, climbing, playing, reading, chatting… if she can do all that on oxygen, why worry? Worry does nothing to put calories in children (or off their parents).

  6. and look who’s talking ….
you didn’t like to eat either. Then my wise, motherly family doctor told me in her hungarian accented voice: relax, Mom, child will eat when hungry enough.
And, you are proof – you grew up just fine and healthy.
    Relax! Hope it works!
