crisis averted

I don’t usually pay much attention to my hair these days, mostly because I simply don’t have the time and/or energy. However, yesterday there was crisis and a I was moments away from purchasing a razor and shaving the whole mop off. Moments. Thankfully I had the foresight to have made an appointment with my hair stylist for the afternoon.

I probably should have worn a hat in public.

Anyway, instead of running home after work to clean the floors, which is my designated Monday task, I ran to the hair salon and got my hair cut. During the course of my appointment my stylist, the wonderful Stephanie-who-judges-not-what-hair-product-I-use mentioned that I had “build up” and asked what shampoo I use. I could NOT bring myself to tell her and said as much. And then I thought I should probably say something… so I lied. I lied to my hairstylist — the person with the sharp scissors standing next to me. The person with the ability to make me either look fabulous or, with a quick snip of those ultra-sharp shears, put me into some land of Hair Shame that would take me months to grow out. I probably violated every hairstylist – client  rule there is and LIED. I told her I use Head & Shoulders — which is partly true because I have used it on occassion — but the truth of the matter is I use Strawberries & Cream V05 which I bought for $0.77. I spent less on a bottle of shampoo then on a cup of coffee. Why do I use it? Wait — why is that even in my bathroom?!? I don’t know. I have no answers. Everytime I use it, though, I feel like I’ve been immersed in some teenager’s fantasy of what a field of strawberries would smell like.

After the haircut. My new sassy bob-do.

I took the time, today, therefore to go to the CVS and bought some clarifying shampoo and some higher-end shampoo and conditioner. I can only hope that this fancy-schmancy new stuff not only makes my hair look better but would also make my wrinkles go away and melt 10lbs off my butt.

  1. I notice that between your BEFORE and AFTER shots you were also motivated to switch from the I-buttoned-all-the-buttons-and-it-just-hangs-this-way shirt and cardigan (surely an unlucky shot of the camera angle) for a showing-off-the-swanlike-throat ballet neck top, in a more intense and vivid color. Ain’t haircuts grand?
