I’m a big fan of serendipity. Serendipity — just saying it makes me happy, it’s a FUN word. It means good fortune, luck; of making desirable discoveries by accident. I think I got through undergraduate AND graduate school (twice) through serendipity. I got into librarianship through serendipity. I met my husband through serendipity.

The latest manifestation of serendipity happened yesterday. I can trace it for you…

About a 2 years ago I  was searching Google for information about the street Richard and I were about to buy a house on. I stumbled upon this blog, and it turned out that Sage was a new co-worker of mine. She put a link to my blog up on her blog… and subsequently her friend Yoko clicked on it. Turns out Yoko, too, is a librarian. On HER blog there’s a link to this lady, who’s photos I’ve been looking at for a while as she is up on Flickr and lives (I think) in West Philly.

As I was clicking through photos on Flickr I came across this fabulous project that  Miss Plum has going on right now. I really admire what she’s doing — taking portraits of strangers. I’ve occasionally had the urge to do that, but never have the guts to follow through. I’ll just live vicariously through her photos. Check out Art Clash for the lowdown on the impetus of this.

I got inspired. I put my camera in my pocket, sans case, for my walk home. I was determined to find something to photograph. I found it, I photographed it. But, you’re going to have to wait until tomorrow to see it because Richard took my camera to work so he could photograph the new building he’s working on.

  2. I do love Ms. Plum’s latest project. It kind of reminds me of Harry Callahan’s work in that area– some of my favorite photography.

Glad to be a part of the serendipity chain!
