Phantom Soldier Meditation Project

When we were down in center city for the Thanksgiving Day parade Richard noticed this pink soldier tucked in among the traffic signal boxes.

I took a photo of it because it amused me to see a little pink soldier hiding in the urban jungle. Little did I know that this is actually part of a large project which I believe at this point consists of over 3700 pink soldiers, posters of soldiers and other items which are ‘hidden’ throughout Philadelphia. It’s called the Phantom Soldier Meditation Project. Not coincidentally I’m sure, this is close to the number of US soldiers who have been killed in Iraq.

I’m not the only person to have noticed them, and I’m certainly not the first. There’s a Flickr group which you can join and post photos to. Go, open your eyes, take the photo.

  2. They are all over myspace too! Check it out, I think this is going to be real big. A worldwide protest of “pink armymen reminders”. To remind us of what is going on in our world.

    Peace out!
