status of the plants

My lovely sister-in-law inquired yesterday about my garden. So, here’s an update for you Liz!

The sweet peas have grown

The clematis has also grown and received protection with marigolds:

Maja and I were in the backyard yesterday evening inspecting the growth of the plants:

New words to Maja’s vocabulary now include: hydrangea, marigold, geranium, lavendar, sweet peas, strawberry, azalea, container, watering can.

I also have a plot in a neighbourhood community garden where I grow non-flower things. Primarily tomatoes and salad (spinach, mixed greens, simpson lettuce). This year I also put in some carrots and beets. I got Maja a little watering can that she uses in that garden where she primarily waters the dirt, weeds, pathways, her shoes, and on rare occasion a tomato plant. I plan on going to the garden this evening, and will try and take some pictures!

  1. The plants are looking great!! Marigolds were a really good idea… I have wild violets around the bases of my clematis’ and they seem very happy.

It seems we have a future gardener in Maja :o) Can’t wait to see the veggie photos! Thanks for posting them!! Lots of love xoxo

  2. sigh, I envy your gardening ambitions. I think about it, but don’t do it. However, our flowers seem to be doing well despite my lack of effort. We have daisies, lavender, peonies, irises in the front.

  3. Our front garden in Calgary just got dumped on by at least 5 inches of snow!!! So, we’ll have to see what we can salvage. My honeysuckle vines are doing well though.

  4. Your grandfather would be very happy about your garden, because he loved the marigold. Nice to see them at the foot of the clematis.

  5. Katia, your blogs are absolutely admirable! I love your endeavor of showing Maja mother nature! I also love your efforts to share the joy you have with Maja with the rest of the world!

  6. Envy galore here in the northern region: my clematis is hardly visible above the coralbells (there for the ‘cool’ feet!). It’s been warm lately, I am sure everything will soon grow in leaps and bounds. As for the marigolds –they don’t do so well in my garden as they are simply devoured by slugs. I know, slugs are supposed to not like them, well NOT in my garden.
this turns out to be a ‘garden column’.
Maja looks so pretty, I would also like to have one of her school pictures – or any pictures.
    Love, Mom
