i don’t understand my child

Maja is not a big fan of vegetables — despite my efforts to introduce those to her first in her infancy, and then give her fruit. I tried and tried… but the girl just doesn’t like them.

On Monday at lunchtime I thought I’d try corn. Again. I put a little bit (we’re talking a 1/4 c. — it’d be a miracle if she even ate 3 kernels) in a cup, thinking she might like the new presentation. And she did. And she ate the corn. She even dumped it onto her plate and continued to eat the corn. Amazing.

Then, that evening the wonders of Maja continued. She ate carrots. She asked for MORE carrots. She ate at least 1/2 cup of carrots, maybe more.

Yesterday (Tuesday) I observed the ingestion of peas. Green peas. All of them, except 1 which she decided was a “sad” pea and that it was crying — so she wouldn’t eat it. I have no idea why that ONE particular innocent green pea was sad. So, I ate it. And it was good.

After she got bored with the peas she focused on my dinner. I made this recipe last night — minus the peppers, of course. And, Maja ate and enjoyed some of the rice. The rice which had chili powder in it.  Regarding the recipe, I find it fascinating that it’s on the Canadian website, but not the American.

Maja’s stitches came out yesterday and the wound seems to be healing nicely. I don’t think it will be a big scar and believe it will fade in time. We had a bit of a debate for the removal of the bandage last night, it went like this:

Me: Maja, can mama take off your sticker [bandaid]?

Maja: no

Me: we need to take it off so you can go in the bathtub and get your hair washed.

Maja: NO! Doctor fix it.

Me: can I be the doctor? Doctor Mama?

Maja: No!!!! Maja Mama. Not doctor. Doctor fix the booboo. [crying ensues]

Richard and I finally got the bandaid off in a team effort — he held her down and I peeled. Once it was off she moved on and never mentioned it again. Guess I should have gone to medical school.

  1. You probably don’t want to hear that James is NUTS about vegetables and finds broccoli as exciting as ice cream. But it sounds like Maja is well on her way now!

  2. They will continue to confuse you so you might as well get used to it now. Anna says “I don’t like mushrooms”. I said, “Try it”. Anna “These are great”. ????
