the ONE thing I didn’t really want her to inherit

When I was pregnant with Maja I talked to her a lot inutero, trying to convince her to inherit the right mix of traits from her parents:

  • my teeth, hair, and feet
  • blue eyes (don’t know why this was so important)
  • her dad’s temperament and brains

Well, she’s got the blue eyes… the rest remains to be seen. What IS becoming clear, unfortunately, is that Maja inherited my trait of Extreme Crankiness Related to Exhaustion. My finest hours do not happen after 9pm — when I get tired I get cranky and Maja has inherited this. Suffice it to say evenings are not usually a happy time in our house.

What about you? Do you, as an adult, still have a “cranky time”? C’mon… ‘fess up!

  1. any time I am overly tired. Hence my pretty firm dedication to naps whenever possible. On days when I have the boys and they are napping, I am napping!

  3. I tend to lose steam after 9 or so, like you but I am definitely done by 10. Also, how tired I feel by the end of the day also depends on how well I’ve slept the night before. I slept so badly on Saturday night. I had to force myself to stay up until 10 pm on Sunday night before going to sleep because if I had gone to sleep earlier, it would have completely thrown me off. Sometimes I’ll be so tired that I will watch the clock until it turns literally from 9:59 to 10:00 so I can finally go to sleep.

I have to say that I am jealous of your strawberry haul. The pictures are great. Québec strawberries will be available soon and I just can’t wait to go picking!

  4. Oh my gosh do I ever have my cranky times. Like you I am not pleasant when I am lacking in sleep. I am in love with my bed!! I also get grumpy when I”m hungry or things aren’t going as planned. I don’t like to deviate from original plans or shall I say “my” plans. Maybe I’ll grow out of it someday!!

  5. A bubblebath behind a locked door usually breaks the crankies in me.

  6. Yeah, I tend to get cranky right before dinner. The combination of hunger and whining children sends me over the edge.

  7. When I get tired stressed and possibly cranky I go into the hot tub and relax. It takes everything away.

  8. Being tired certainly does it for me! And hungry…

I tagged you for a meme. Hope you don’t mind!

  9. Between 4pm and dinner…… I totally crash!!

I’ve started having a little nip of caffeine around 3, which seems to help.

Actually, I am not really a morning person so I’m not all that cheerful before 8am either.

Wow. I have more cranky times than my newborn ;-)

  10. Tired and hungry makes me worse than a teething infant. It’s extra fun to work all day then come home and have everyone else look at me with the “Where’s My Dinner” face. They’re of course hungry too, and apparently in my absence forgot where the pantry was located. Moms rule.
